3 Days Serengeti And Ngorongoro Crater
Experience three unforgettable days exploring two of Tanzania's most famous wildlife…
Dry Season Begins and the Grumeti Crossings
June marks the start of the dry season — clear skies, thinning bush and superb game viewing, with the migration crossing the Grumeti River in the Western Serengeti.
Excellent — the dry season opens with Grumeti river action.
As the land dries, wildlife concentrates around water and sightings improve dramatically. June offers excellent conditions with fewer crowds than the July–September peak, plus the drama of the Grumeti crossings.
June brings dry, sunny days around 22–27°C and cool nights and mornings. It is one of the most comfortable months to travel, with little rain and clear light.
For a full month-by-month overview, see our best time to visit Tanzania guide.
In June the herds push through the Western Corridor and cross the Grumeti River — dramatic, if less famous than the Mara crossings. The migration is heading steadily north.
| Time of year | Where the herds are |
|---|---|
| Dec–Mar | Calving on the southern Serengeti & Ndutu plains |
| Apr–May | Moving north-west through the central & western Serengeti |
| Jun | Grumeti River crossings in the Western Corridor |
| Jul–Sep | Mara River crossings in the northern Serengeti |
| Oct–Nov | Returning south as the short rains begin |
Every trip is private and fully customizable to your dates and the season.
