Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi- Amboseli National Park: (240 km: 4 hrs Approx.)

We’ll start early – your expert driver/guide from Access to Kenya Safari will pick you up at 7:30 am from your hotel, residence or airport and begin our journey on the Nairobi/Mombasa Highway. As the day brightens, we’ll pass homesteads and Maasai herders along the way.

Upon arriving at Amboseli, your first adventure awaits as we embark on an exhilarating game drive. You won’t need to search far to find the park’s iconic landmark – the renowned Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest peak. This majestic mountain graces the southern horizon, providing a picturesque backdrop for the magnificent wildlife that inhabits the area.

While on this journey, elephants will undoubtedly be a common sight, but your eyes will also be keen to spot other fascinating creatures such as wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, and gazelles. The anticipation of encountering cheetahs and lions adds an extra thrill. The park’s relatively compact size works in our favor, increasing the likelihood of close encounters with a diverse range of wildlife. Prepare to be captivated by the rich tapestry of Amboseli’s natural inhabitants against the backdrop of the stunning Kilimanjaro.

Day 2: Amboseli National Park

Begin the day early with a captivating game drive, followed by a delightful breakfast. Our rhythm for the day: game drive, relaxation, repeat. A perfect way to immerse yourself in the splendors of this diverse park.

For a more active experience with less downtime and more game drives, simply express your preference to your guide, and we’ll tailor it accordingly. At Natural World, our aim is to create the ultimate safari journey for you.

During your park explorations, you might notice a distinct pyramid-shaped landmark – Observation Hill. This vantage point offers the finest views of Amboseli, encompassing its plains, lakes, and the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Observation Hill is an ideal location to observe elephants, buffalo, and hippos as they forage in the marshes below. The wetlands also host a vibrant array of birdlife, including pelicans, geese, kingfishers, and egrets.

Our Amboseli visit also extends an opportunity to engage with the indigenous people of the region. If you’re interested, an optional visit to a local Masai village is available, providing insight into their lifestyle and culture. Feel free to inquire with your guide.

Day 3: Amboseli – Emali train station (100 km: Appr.1.5hours)SGR train to Mombasa

Commence the day with an early breakfast before embarking on a brief final game drive as we bid adieu to the park. You’ve had the privilege of exploring much of this renowned destination, immersing yourself in its diverse wildlife realms and bearing witness to a splendid array of animals. You can now count yourself as a seasoned safari enthusiast!

(Note: An early short exit game viewing drive is available for those staying in lodges or tented camps within the park.)

As we depart from the park and head towards Emali train station, your final glimpses of Amboseli will unfold. However, your upcoming train voyage promises further scenic delights as you traverse both Tsavo West and Tsavo East, potentially affording more park views and wildlife sightings.

Arriving at Emali train station, your driver/guide will provide assistance with tickets and facilitate your transition to the Madaraka Express, a state-of-the-art high-speed train destined for Mombasa and the captivating coast.

Included in your tour is a first-class ticket, granting you the luxury of an air-conditioned compartment and reclining seat. The train’s elevated route provides expansive views of the parks, and its large windows offer splendid vistas of the passing landscapes. A buffet car ensures refreshments and snacks, while well-maintained restrooms enhance your comfort.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the common questions which our clients ask as they plan for their African safari.

Do i need visa/passport?

Yes! To visit Kenya you will definitely require a passport and a visa. Your passport should have at least 2 blank pages and should be valid for a minimum of 6 months past your arrival date. This is to ensure that its validity does not expire before your safari is over.

There are 3 ways to obtain a tourist visa to Kenya;

  1. Visit a Kenyan embassy and apply
  2. On entry to Kenya you can apply for a landing visa. For a landing visa, you need to present your passport. A visa application form and a landing cad will be provided for you to fill out. You will then be required to pay the visa fee in US dollars, which is 50 USD.
  3. For a Visa to Kenya you can apply only by visiting http://evisa.go.ke/evisa.html
Can my children accompany me during the safaris?

Of course! The most beautiful African safari experiences are had as a family. Your children will enjoy seeing the many animals they only read about in books or watch in the movies.

It will be a memorable experience for them. However, it would help if you continually keep your children in sight, especially when in the bush or in a camping site or lodge. Some camps and lodges are not fenced and wild animals roam around freely. Safari guides, however, are always on the lookout to keep you and your children safe.

Kindly let us know during booking if your children will accompany you so that we can make prior arrangements to make their stay comfortable.

What do you mean by unlimited game drives?

A safari is all about freedom and flexibility in exploring the wild. This is what we give our guests. We give you freedom to exclusive wildlife viewing with no restriction on fuel and mileage.

As long as you are within the designated game drive area and the park’s operational hours you can drive for as long as you want. The game drive area also has to be in accordance to your itinerary. For example, if your itinerary reads ‘explore Maasai Mara National Park’, you can drive within Maasai Mara all day but at no one point can you cross over the Mara River into The Serengeti.

Are there bathrooms in the bush?

Your bathroom needs will catered for throughout the safari. There are several public bathroom facilities around picnic sites, camps, lodges ranger stations, visitor centers and museums.

This being a private safari there might not be any public bathroom facilities in sight. However, you will be given an opportunity to use bush bathrooms when no vehicle can be spotted nearby.

The big safari vehicle will keep you hidden as you go about your business. Bush bathrooms are convenient and you will adapt to them.

What kind of clothing should i bring with me?

For comfort throughout the safari, bring with you light casual clothes. Avoid extreme colors; not too dark (black and dark blue are a no) and not too bright. Try neutral colors.

Safari clothing tips

  • Avoid dark colors like black and dark blue. Recommended safari colors are brown, green, khaki, olive and beige.
  • Lightweight jacket or windbreaker
  • Casual, loose-fitting clothes
  • Comfortable walking shoes (i.e. Sneakers, hiking shoes)
  • Sandals or flip-flops
  • Swimsuit
  • Hat
  • Extra cotton socks and underwear
  • One warm sweater
