Safari Itinerary
Days 1- 2: Nairobi Under Canvas
Embrace the safari essence from the moment you land in Nairobi, where your inaugural night unfolds under canvas at Nairobi Tented Camp – a historic haven, the first ever established within Nairobi National Park. A delightful surprise awaits: nestled amidst riverine forest and enveloped by wildlife, this camp is a serene retreat. The tents usher you into the world of traditional safari living – cozy, en-suite, with log-fire-heated water for your shower, and romantically illuminated in the evenings.
Awaken to the symphony of dawn on your first morning in Kenya, marked by a thrilling game drive and a hearty breakfast. The camp’s unfenced southern boundary beckons migratory species during the dry season, enhancing your wildlife encounters. Exploration of Nairobi’s treasures, including the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and the AFEW Giraffe Centre, is conveniently accessible from the park. Alternatively, relish a restful nap beneath a leafy tree in your hammock, a tranquil interlude amidst your adventures.
Days 3 - 4: Amboseli National Park
Following breakfast, embark on a charter flight to Tortilis Camp in Amboseli National Park. This captivating safari haven offers an unparalleled encounter, framed by the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. Immerse yourself in the mesmerizing African savannah as you unwind within the spacious confines of your tented suite.
Upon your arrival at Tortilis Camp, embrace warm hospitality and exceptional service. The camp’s timeless elegance is embodied by traditional thatched roofs and locally-inspired décor. Each tent boasts a private veranda, providing unobstructed views of the park’s diverse wildlife, including frequent elephant herds. Engage in exhilarating game drives, guided by seasoned experts who unveil the wonders of Amboseli’s unique ecosystem. Immerse yourself in the vibrant culture and ancestral traditions of the Maasai people through immersive cultural experiences – an opportunity to connect with this iconic community.
Days 5 - 6: Samburu National Reserve
Fresh from the herds of elephant roaming the fertile land around Kili, you will be transferred to Samburu National Reserve, with Elephant Bedroom Camp as your destination. The camp is set on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, under the welcome shade of green riverine forest. The river cuts through the dry Samburu region with its spectacular scenery and rocky cliffs. Here you feel far from civilisation but with every possible luxury at your fingertips.
The open-sided tents are as close to sleeping under the stars as you can get. Elephants, monkeys and antelope visit in camp; shyer animals are spotted on game drives or guided walks, under the expert guidance of Samburu warriors. Learn more about their tribal folklore and lifestyle with a village visit on day five, snooze in your hammock, sip a cocktail on the game viewing deck, or have a massage. Then marvel as the gods fling their stars across the vast velvet sky before retiring for another night of peaceful sleep.
Days 7 - 9: Mara Magic
Prepare to be transported to the untamed splendor of Kenya’s Maasai Mara, where an extraordinary safari adventure awaits at Ilkeliani Camp. Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the common questions which our clients ask as they plan for their African safari.
Do i need visa/passport?
Yes! To visit Kenya you will definitely require a passport and a visa. Your passport should have at least 2 blank pages and should be valid for a minimum of 6 months past your arrival date. This is to ensure that its validity does not expire before your safari is over.
There are 3 ways to obtain a tourist visa to Kenya;
- Visit a Kenyan embassy and apply
- On entry to Kenya you can apply for a landing visa. For a landing visa, you need to present your passport. A visa application form and a landing cad will be provided for you to fill out. You will then be required to pay the visa fee in US dollars, which is 50 USD.
- For a Visa to Kenya you can apply only by visiting http://evisa.go.ke/evisa.html
Can my children accompany me during the safaris?
Of course! The most beautiful African safari experiences are had as a family. Your children will enjoy seeing the many animals they only read about in books or watch in the movies.
It will be a memorable experience for them. However, it would help if you continually keep your children in sight, especially when in the bush or in a camping site or lodge. Some camps and lodges are not fenced and wild animals roam around freely. Safari guides, however, are always on the lookout to keep you and your children safe.
Kindly let us know during booking if your children will accompany you so that we can make prior arrangements to make their stay comfortable.
What do you mean by unlimited game drives?
A safari is all about freedom and flexibility in exploring the wild. This is what we give our guests. We give you freedom to exclusive wildlife viewing with no restriction on fuel and mileage.
As long as you are within the designated game drive area and the park’s operational hours you can drive for as long as you want. The game drive area also has to be in accordance to your itinerary. For example, if your itinerary reads ‘explore Maasai Mara National Park’, you can drive within Maasai Mara all day but at no one point can you cross over the Mara River into The Serengeti.
Are there bathrooms in the bush?
Your bathroom needs will catered for throughout the safari. There are several public bathroom facilities around picnic sites, camps, lodges ranger stations, visitor centers and museums.
This being a private safari there might not be any public bathroom facilities in sight. However, you will be given an opportunity to use bush bathrooms when no vehicle can be spotted nearby.
The big safari vehicle will keep you hidden as you go about your business. Bush bathrooms are convenient and you will adapt to them.
What kind of clothing should i bring with me?
For comfort throughout the safari, bring with you light casual clothes. Avoid extreme colors; not too dark (black and dark blue are a no) and not too bright. Try neutral colors.
Safari clothing tips
- Avoid dark colors like black and dark blue. Recommended safari colors are brown, green, khaki, olive and beige.
- Lightweight jacket or windbreaker
- Casual, loose-fitting clothes
- Comfortable walking shoes (i.e. Sneakers, hiking shoes)
- Sandals or flip-flops
- Swimsuit
- Hat
- Extra cotton socks and underwear
- One warm sweater
